About University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus

The University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, also referred to as simply UPRRP, is the largest campus, by students population, in the University of Puerto Rico System, also being the first public university in the history of Puerto Rico. It is located in the heart of Rio Piedras, which is a formal municipality, now part of the city of San Juan, the capital and the most populous municipality in Puerto Rico.

UPRRP was established in March, 1903, tracing its roots back to the Normal Industrial School, which was established in Fajardo, PR, first starting with only 20 students and 5 professors. Today, the university's enrollment has reached a number of more than 18 500 students and a faculty number of about 1400, the institution currently offering over 80 bachelor's programs, and more than 55 master's and 14 doctoral programs.

Athletics

UPRRP's sports teams are known as the Roosters (men) and Bantams (women). Their distinctive colors are red and white.
